Jewelry for Dad, (Finally!)
For the dad who is open to upping his accessory game - Rach B is (finally!) launching a modern men’s cuff bracelet! Their acknowledgment of my process, art, and hands-on approach left them wow’d every time along with an exclaimed: “You did that?!”. My dad (Assistant #1) was a machinist and we understood each other's language. (I mean, who speaks in millimeters, gauges, and metals?) While he has since passed, he is present in my every day while I produce my jewelry designs. He saw my work-roughed hands while I hand-manipulated all of my components without the aid of what would be super helpful specific tools. He would stop to admire my craftsmanship, brainstorm alternatives, then laborly stand at his gigantic milling machines for hours, taking a block of steel and shave away millimeter by millimeter to create my various component shapers - the ones that help me shape each of my unique geometric jewelry pendants and hoops! These modern hexagon hoop earrings would not be as consistently possible without his custom tools nor this long labradorite layering necklace. Thanks, Dad!
My husband, Kevin (Assistant #2), is a mountain of support. He pushes, encourages, and feeds the momentum that keeps me going. He beams with pride and is involved as my “sign-off” on each of my ideas. We operate at two extremes (he thinks huge, I think smaller) and it balances us out perfectly. While he appreciates the finesse, thoughtfulness, and hands-on approach of art in general, he has made several requests for a modern men’s cuff bracelet from yours truly. A request I can now fulfill! For the occasional “top off his look” detail, the bracelet cuff is extremely comfortable and can be worn while typing away at his computer without notice. The sturdy design is accented with a modern oxidized grid texture - nothing too shiny or perfect - for the right amount of edge and contrast. The edges are smoothed and softened to eliminate the notice of wearing the bracelet. It becomes one with his day and style.
I hand forged this unique men’s cuff bracelet from a solid piece of sterling silver metal. The jewelry-making process initially begins with a solid thick sterling silver sheet of metal that I saw to size. I then steadily roll the band through a rolling mill where it is manipulated into shape followed by softening all the edges for the ultimate comfortable cuff. The texturized bracelet is imprinted with a cross-hatched design with an industrial rolling pin. Once the desired imprint is achieved, I oxidized the sterling silver band for some contrast as if the modern cuff has been loved for a while and darkened with time.
To put the bracelet on, the unique cuff slips on from the side of the skinniest and softest part of the wrist (not the boney part) and with a half-turn, the opening faces the bottom of the wrist. The bracelet for dad will hug the wrist comfortably without spinning or turning. The M/L cuff bracelet design is made to fit most since it can be stretched or squeezed with gentle effort (as pictured on the model) and L/XL for larger than average wrists.
